Dear Colleagues,

We are delighted to welcome you to ERIDOB2024, the 14th conference of European Researchers in Didactics of Biology,
in Lyon-France, July 1st-5th 2024.

ERIDOB aims to bring together researchers in didactics of biology from around the world to share and discuss their research and the results of their work. The association was founded in 1986 by Pierre Clément and Horst Bayrhuber and has since organized a conference every two years. It is a great honor for us to hold the most important conference that we have in Europe on Biological Education. We will meet in the magnificent historical city of Lyon, that has been established since the Gallo-Roman period at the confluence of the Rhone and the Saone where a museum partly dedicated to science now stands. Lyon is overlooked by the Fourvière and the Croix-Rousse hills. After having been the world capital of the silk industry in the 16th century and the birthplace of the cinema at the end of the 19th century, Lyon is currently known as the world capital of gastronomy. Our city is also renowned for its scientific and technological excellence.

We will be hosted by the University Claude Bernard Lyon 1, which has more than 47,000 students in the fields of science, technology, health, and sport.

In the current period, which is marked by both a strong expectation from science to meet the challenges of our era and by the discrediting of scientific results, the theme of the ERIDOB 2024 Conference will be “Biology education to bridge the gap between science and society“. We are confident that it will be an excellent opportunity to initiate in-depth discussions with other scholars in the field of biology didactics.

We are looking forward to meeting you in Lyon!

PS: In line with the decision that has been taken at the general assembly in 2022, the official language of the conference will be English. In order to promote the inclusion of everyone in our community, we are thinking about offering translation assistance in different languages for the discussion time that follows the presentations.
